We are saved (rescued, delivered, set free, and protected) from the consequences of our sinful condition when we repent of our sins, and accept (By Faith) that Christ is the only way back to God. However, it takes more than our mental knowledge of God, or knowing the plan of salvation. Information, in and of itself, is absolutely worthless unless you do something with it. It takes action.
Repent is an action word.
To Repent is to feel deep regret (to the point of grief) for sinful actions. Most importantly, it is the act of changing one's heart, mind, and point of view.
Repentance is making a 180-degree turn away from those sinful actions - toward the heart, mind, point of view and ways of God. It means recognizing those sinful actions, and agreeing with God that they are sin, and making a conscious decision to turn and go in the opposite direction.
